Good Running FAQs

Q: How did you come up with the idea for Good Running?
In early 2016 some of our friends at Achilles Running Shop / Great Lakes Race Timing did a virtual challenge. In March 2016 Kelly created one to raise money for her girls cross-country team. Local friends participated, logged their workouts, and physical raffle tickets were assigned. When the month ended, friends asked, “What’s next?” and wanted to keep going.

Angela approached Kelly about creating a non-profit group to benefit a different local charity each month and Good Running was born. We selected Project Hope for the Homeless in Painesville, Ohio to become the first beneficiary of a Good Running challenge month. And using spreadsheets the concept of ticketless tickets took the place of real raffle tickets.

Good Running is organized and operated 100% by volunteers who want to do good in the community while supporting and motivating friends to get fitter together. We aim to bring awareness of and support to local charities and help make a bigger impact as a group of community service-minded runners.

Q: What are ticketless tickets?
Ticketless tickets are simply virtual raffle tickets that you earn with your exercise. At the end of each month we do a raffle prize drawing using Facebook Live and the more tickets you’ve earned, the better your chances of winning a prize.
Q: What if I'm not a runner?
You can earn ticketless tickets through walking miles and cross-training and even physical therapy. So you don't even have to be a runner to participate. And other participants don't care if you are an accomplished runner who eats 100-mile races for breakfast or you are new or just coming back to your fitness journey. Your hard work will help to inspire and motivate others.

And if you are not currently a runner and aspire to be one, let us know, and don't be afraid to post questions in our Facebook group. There is a lot of knowledge and experience within the group and we love to help!
Q: What counts as cross-training for earning ticketless tickets?
Any fitness activity you do for exercise counts. Examples include swimming, biking, yoga, even foam rolling and stretching. They count by time with every 20 minutes for one ticketless ticket.

For chores and yard work that you would be doing anyway you can still earn tickets but it is from walking mileage while doing that activity.
Q: Where do the raffle prizes come from?
Raffle prizes are donated by Good Running organizers, generous sponsors and local businesses, and fellow participants
Q: Can I participate even if I'm not local to Ohio?
Yes! We would love to grow Good Running. And if a chosen charity is local to northeast Ohio, you may participate by donating to an equivalent charity near you. We choose local charities because we feel we can make a bigger impact as a group and others in the community directly around us are benefiting from it.

Often we give participants an option to either make a monetary donation to the charity, donate physical items from the charity's wish list, or volunteer time for the charity
Q: How do I log my workouts?
If you join the Facebook group, you can post evidence of your workout each day.

If you use Garmin Connect, you can connect with angpohl, but do give us a heads-up so we know who you are, and we’ll assign ticketless tickets directly from your Garmin data.

Or connect with us on Facebook Messenger and privately send us your proof.

If you are not a Facebook user, you can also participate by logging workouts and uploading a file for proof to this website.
Q: How can I participate?
It is easiest to participate by joining our Facebook group that we create for each new month and charity. Go to Facebook for Good Running – Monthly Mileage Challenges.

When a new month is posted, request to join it. Then donate the requested amount (usually $20-25 or volunteering time for the charity) directly to the chosen charity, post or message us with proof, and you’re in!

Then share your workouts either in the Facebook group, using Garmin Connect, messaging them to us privately, or by using the workout logging page on this website.

Encourage your fellow participants as everybody gets fitter together.
Q: What kind of prizes are raffled each month?
It varies each month and we typically raffle more than 20 prizes. Examples of previous prizes include fitness tracking devices, wireless headphones, gift cards, restaurant gift certificates, running gear and fuel, fitness gear, relaxation baskets, massage gift certificates, wine, healthy recipe books, homemade scarves, and free race entries.

We periodically have 'pop-up raffles' throughout the month on Facebook. The winner is chosen from those who express interest in the prize. This often happens for free race entries or gear of a particular size, so we can ensure that the prize will actually get good use from the winner.
Q: How can I nominate a local charity to become a beneficiary oF a Good Running month?
Send us a message on this website via form on the home page
Q: How do I know if I won a prize?
Tune into the fun live raffle drawings that we do using Facebook Live at the end of each month. Or watch the recording playback. Or we post the winners within the Facebook group and tag the winners. If you are not a Facebook user, we will find a way to contact you and get you your prize.

Q: How do I claim my raffle prize?
For gift card prizes we usually mail them to the winners. For other prizes won by participants in northeast Ohio, we usually arrange to drop them off at one of the local running shops and you can pick it up at your convenience.

If you are not local, we can arrange to mail you your prize.
